Global Conference on Higher Education Internationalisation
Call for Proposals
Conference Dates: 22-24 August 2016
Venue: Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga, South Africa
Conference Theme: A Global International Higher Education Commons: Evaluating and
Imagining the Internationalisation of Higher Education
Target Audience: Higher Education Leadership, Senior International Officers, Academics,
Thought Leaders, International Education Professionals, Practitioners and Students
Rationale:
The Global conference will provide a common platform for all those that are interested in higher education internationalisation to deliberate and explore the current and future challenges and opportunities facing higher education globally. The conference will focus on global issues that are shaping today’s world and impacting the future. The conference will provide a platform/commons where all can meet to deliberate and engage without fear of domination of the one over the other. The conference will be arranged in the true spirit of Ubuntu, an African term meaning “humanity to others” where participants will aim to improve the other and not only the self.
We invite you to submit a paper or a thought piece focussing on higher education internationalisation with specific reference to its responsibility and influence on local and global matters. In addition, interested academics, researchers and practitioners should consider the following sub-themes:
-
The role of higher education and higher education internationalisation in addressing global issues (peace and reconciliation, migration, the environment, inequality and poverty);
-
Bridging the inequality gap and its challenges in order to make higher education internationalisation truly global and inclusive;
-
The latest innovations in higher education internationalisation practice that bring the developing and the developed world closer together;
-
The post-Cold War geo-political positioning of the world and its influence on higher education internationalisation;
-
Collaboration between national and regional organisations in advancing higher education internationalisation;
-
National and regional higher education internationalisation strategies and policies.
Papers can focus on the curriculum, mobility, collaboration, research and/or outreach. The organising committee is also interested in receiving proposals for thought pieces focusing on the conference theme and sub-themes that would stimulate new debates advancing higher education internationalisation.
For both papers and thought pieces, please submit a proposed title, description of your paper/thought piece and names and institutional affiliations of the speakers. Please note that all this should not be more than 800 words in length (one page).
The conference programme will be a combination of focussed plenary sessions, panel discussions and parallel sessions focussing on the different domains of higher education internationalisation.
The unique setting of the venue will provide for innovative thinking and re-thinking and the envisaged output would be in the form of a book that will include papers and thought pieces from all sessions evaluated by the participants as trend setting.
